Why Nevada Legalized Most Forms of Gambling?
Have you ever taken a vacation to a place where it is fun and there are some things to do, it is not as exciting as other places? That is what Nevada used to be, since it is in the middle of a desert, there wasn't much to see or do there. It was in 1931 that the Nevada Legislature was urged to build up on their tourism campaign since places to see like the Hoover Dam and the completion of Boulder City were being touted as vacation must sees. The government of Nevada decided to make gambling legal because there was such an influx of illegal gabling going on and making city officials corrupt that they decide to make it legal. While the gaming part of Nevada was off to a slow start in World War II it was after the war that America came out of the gate. Everywhere in Nevada is legal to gamble in except for Boulder City.
Compare old Nevada to current Nevada; the state makes so much revenue from casinos that even on their slowest months is something a normal person would like to see in a year. With hotels being built all across the state especially in Las Vegas there are more casinos to be found. More casinos and hotels means more tourism and more tourism means more money. Income is the only real reason to make gambling legal. You can stop corruption by offering something that doesn't need to be hidden anymore and that is what Nevada did.
There is a lot of money to be made from gambling but people who already lived in the state could not be expected to visit the casinos on a daily basis and that is where tourism came in. People do not come to Las Vegas just for the shows anymore then come to hopefully win big. You can find any casino in any hotel packed with people and with them being open 24 hours there is always someone in the casino. Most casinos offer free drinks so you don't have to pay from them and this is a big draw for people looking to hit the bar, and casinos are designed that way, they provide you everything you need to stay in one place and spend your money.
There are no clocks in the casinos anymore either, this way you cannot tell what time it is or how long you have been in the casino. Gambling in Nevada is well worth it to the state then and now to be legal and they do make a lot of money from tourists who now bring their families and they even come to get married. Las Vegas and the surrounding Nevada cities that have legalized gambling are making a lot of money because in 1931, they decided they needed to. Nevada is one of the most popular places in the United States and all over the world to come and gamble there are over 1800 hundred slot machines and 5300 gaming tables all legal and regulated.
